Wisconsin Volleyball Team Is Still Celebrating Its National Title

Turns out there’s more than a trophy and a banner that comes with winning a national championship. Even as it turns its attention and efforts toward next season, the University of Wisconsin volleyball team has been reaping the rewards from winning its first NCAA title in December. Over the past few months the Badgers have been lauded and applauded at the Kohl Center, Lambeau Field, Fiserv Forum, the State Capitol and the chancellor’s residence. Still to come is a trip to American Family Field this summer. They’ve been honored by a United States Senate resolution, complete with 11 “Whereases”, that credited them with having “brought great pride and honor to the University of Wisconsin and its alumni, loyal fans, and the State of Wisconsin .” The theme of it all, according to coach Kelly Sheffield, is appreciation. That flows both ways, from the fans to the players and vice versa. Source Movies 2022: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=kumlik.boccheinutili-streamita https

UConn Seniors Make Their First Title Game

Neither semifinal was particularly pretty, but we’ve got a title match set for Sunday when South Carolina meets UConn for the women’s basketball championship in Minneapolis. It’s dynasty-in-waiting vs. established dynasty and a showcase of the two most recent national players of the year. The Gamecocks and Huskies are likely to provide a spectacular final. But before that, there were plenty of winners and losers from Friday night's semifinals in the Target Center. WINNERS The double-double After 27 consecutive double-doubles, South Carolina’s Aliyah Boston saw her streak snapped in the Gamecocks’ regional final win over Creighton. But Boston, the national player of the year, seemed to be tired of hearing about that. Boston scored 23 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in South Carolina’s semifinal win over Louisville, likely the start of a new streak. Stanford’s Haley Jones also notched a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds.  Minneapolis  The host city will get to see what it w

Winter Competition Has Just 1 Area Team Left

It seems like we slipped from winter to spring sports without get a chance to catch our breath. Bartlesville High School’s baseball and soccer teams will have already played three and four times, respectively, by the end of the weekend. Several other Bartlesville and other area teams have already parachuted into the war zone of competition. The lone active vestige of the winter prep season still alive going into Saturday is the Oklahoma Union High School boys’ basketball team. By late Saturday night, the Cougars will have either clinched a return trip to the 2A state tournament or will have written their final chapter. The spring sports season will continue to gain traction next week — and then mostly shut down for spring break. Once spring break concludes, it seems like the final week of March and most the month of April have more condensed sports action than any other comparative stretch in the high school athletic year. Ejecting It From World Cup Qualifying

World soccer’s global governing body suspended Russia and its teams from all competitions on Monday, ejecting the country from qualifying for the 2022 World Cup only weeks before it was to play for one of Europe’s final places in this year’s tournament in Qatar. The suspension, which was announced Monday evening in coordination with European soccer’s governing body, also barred Russian club teams from international competitions. The decision came a day after FIFA was heavily criticized for not going far enough in punishing Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, and amid mounting demands from national federations for stronger action. The initial pressure for an outright ban of Russia came from soccer officials in Poland, Sweden and the Czech Republic, whose national team faced the prospect of games against Russia in a World Cup playoff in March. Other countries and officials, including the federations representing France, England and the United States, quickly said they would not play Rus

Gonzaga Takes First WCC Loss in Over Two Years Until today, Gonzaga hadn’t even played a conference game decided by single digits. But the Bulldogs’ dominant reign in the WCC was stopped at least for a night by Saint Mary’s, which executed a marvelous game plan to suck the life out of one of the sport’s most explosive offenses. The Gaels limited Gonzaga to just 21 first-half points to get out to a 15-point halftime edge, then made enough shots in the second half to hold on even as Gonzaga made its pu
