Good Omens Stars David Tennant and Michael Sheen Discuss a Potential Third Season

Good Omens' demon/angel duo, David Tennant and Michael Sheen, are hopeful that Prime will greenlight a Season 3 for the heavenly supernatural dramedy.

David Tennant and Michael Sheen, the duo in the lead roles of Good Omens, shared their thoughts on a potential third season.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Tennant and Sheen addressed the possibility of a third season, "Well, it's not in our gift," Tennant candidly revealed when asked about the possibility of a third season. "Yeah. If it was up to us, that would be one thing, but..." Sheen added. They both hope for another season, but the decision ultimately rests with the viewers and the production team.

After a four year wait, the second season of Good Omens has finally arrived on Prime, with Tennant and Sheen reprising their roles as Crowley and Aziraphale. The first season, based on the book by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, has set the stage for a potential Season 3, as Gaiman himself is heavily involved in expanding the story.

"We love doing those different time period scenes as well," Sheen said. "They're such fun to do... Partly because of the dressing up nature of it, but also because it does show little bits of the relationship and little aspects of the characters and how they've developed. And it's so wonderful to do." Tennant chimed in saying, "It might be nice to see '80s Aziraphale and Crowley."

What Might a Season 3 Look Like for Good Omens?

Tennant emphasized Neil Gaiman's involvement and understanding of the potential Season 3 storyline, saying, "Oh, Neil Gaiman knows exactly where he wants to take it." Tennant expressed his respect for Gaiman's creative vision, adding, "He’s known these characters longer than me and what’s interesting is what he does with them. That’s the bit that I’m desperate to know. I do know where Crowley might end up next, but it would be very wrong if I told you."

The show's first season was a faithful adaptation of the novel by Gaiman and Pratchett. While the duo planned a follow-up story titled 668: The Neighbor of the Beast, their busy schedules prevented its realization. However, Gaiman has revealed that if Good Omens gets a third season, it will explore the ideas they had for the sequel.

In the new season of Good Omens, co-written by Gaiman and John Finnemore, the story begins with the archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) suffering from amnesia and seeking Aziraphale's help. Tennant earlier described his excitement upon receiving the offer for a second season, saying, "[The story] was all worked out, and it just felt delicious, really. I mean from that moment on, it just felt like it was always meant to be. It felt like it was such a perfectly formed idea. I think it's fair to say that Michael and I didn't need much persuading."

Season 2 of Good Omens is now streaming on Prime Video.
