Satan Runs the White House in Millar and Gross’ American Jesus: Revelation

Mark Millar and Peter Gross return to wrap up their epic biblical trilogy about Christ and the Antichrist with American Jesus: Revelation.

The final volume of Mark Millar and Peter Gross' American Jesus trilogy is releasing in October, just in time to wrap up the story before its forthcoming Netflix adaptation.

CBR can exclusively reveal a preview of American Jesus: Revelation #1, published by Image Comics. The three-issue series begins with Jodie Christianson as the President of the United States, reading his children bedtime stories of angels, Lucifer's fall from grace, Yahweh creating the Garden of Eden and the birth of Adam and Eve.

Jodie is the protagonist of the first American Jesus volume who originally believed he was the son of God. As he entertains his children, he slowly reveals that he is actually the son of Satan, and has used his presidential power to place nearly every country in the world under Satanic rule. The true reincarnation of Christ -- a woman named Catalina whose story was detailed in American Jesus: The New Messiah -- hopes to stop him, and Jodie is confident that he can destroy her. "Human history is just a list of Yahweh's plans being corrupted by my father and what comes next is his biggest one yet," Jodie says. "This is what Daddy does every day while you guys are learning in school."

What Is American Jesus?

Originally published by Dark Horse in 2004 under the name Chosen, American Jesus details the lives of Jodie and Catalina as they develop unusual powers, struggle with their biblical connections, and slowly come to terms with their lives as the Christ and Antichrist.

American Jesus is currently in development as a Netflix series, and will be released under the name El Elegido, which is Spanish for "The Chosen One." The show, which does not have a release date at the moment, stars Tenoch Huerta -- who will soon appear on cinema screens as Namor in Marvel's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever -- alongside Dianna Agron and a cast of youngsters. A recently released behind-the-scenes trailer for the show features Millar's thoughts on the adaptation, which is filming in Mexico. "I think fans should be excited about the fact that I'm excited, and I'm the harshest judge of any adaptation," Millar said. "It looks unlike any comic book adaptation I've seen."

American Jesus: Revelation #1 is written by Millar, illustrated by Gross and Tomm Coker. The book goes on sale Oct. 26 from Image Comics.
