Star Wars Brings Back The Most Surprising Order 66 Survivor
The emergence of more Order 66 survivors always begs the question of who else, but Star Wars has brought back one that's very surprising.
A surprising Order 66 survivor has been brought back to Star Wars. In the years following the introduction of Order 66 in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, new perspectives have been provided on the tragic eradication of the Jedi all across Star Wars media. Animated shows, live-action shows, video games, and more have expanded on what happened to the Jedi and who survived. This had led to more Order 66 survivors being unveiled, whether they're brand-new characters or Legends characters that are being given the chance to step into the spotlight once again.
Shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi have also been showing why Jedi remained in hiding following the fall of the Jedi Order. With Darth Vader's team of Inquisitors constantly on the hunt for Force-wielders, no place in the galaxy seemed safe enough for a Jedi. The emergence of more survivors, though, has led viewers to wonder who else may have survived this tragedy and what they were up to in other parts of the galaxy. As it turns out, there's one Order 66 survivor who's being brought back all the way from Legends.
A Stormtrooper Encountered Vima-Da-Boda On Nar Shaddaa
In her short story "Ending Protocol," which is featured in From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi, Hannah Whitten writes about a stormtrooper on Endor who had an encounter with Vima-Da-Boda on the planet of Nar Shaddaa. While the old Jedi isn't mentioned by name, the way the stormtrooper, named "Riz," describes her matches up very closely with Vima herself. Riz also describes two lightsabers with silver-and-black hilts, which match Vima's own. With all of this occurring on Nar Shaddaa, Vima's famed hiding place, it only seems to be confirmed that Vima has found her way back to Star Wars once again.
The woman they were looking for lived in a warren beneath a skybridge, broken durasteel creating a makeshift door into hollow darkness, kept away from the glow of urban sprawl. Stepping through the jagged doorway felt like stepping into a waiting mouth.
She'd looked harmless. Thin and pale, as if she never got quite enough to eat, dressed in ragged layers of cloth that may or may not have ever been intended as clothing. Despite her thinness and her age, though, there'd been a glint in her eye that spoke of well-honed survival instinct, prey that had managed to evade the predator far longer than expected.
Vima's Death Was Witnessed By A Stromtrooper - Or Was It?
Riz goes on to share being manipulated by Vima with a Jedi Mind Trick that allows the Jedi to steal their blaster. This results in a firefight that implies Vima gets killed. It isn't confirmed, however, that this is exactly what Vima's fate was, which in a galaxy like Star Wars certainly leaves room for the possibility that the Order 66 survivor still may have yet another story to be told.
The return of Vima to Star Wars from Legends gives an optimistic look at who else could make that same leap. With so many Order 66 survivors coming to the surface, it's a touching tribute to bring Vima back in such a way. To do so from the point of view of a stormtrooper provides a unique perspective into what kinds of stories are still left to be told about the years between the fall of the Galactic Republic and the start of the Galactic Civil War. The mystery surrounding the confirmation of Vima's return is just a testament to the nature of her character that has returned to the spotlight.
