Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Finally Gets First Teaser Trailer

The first teaser trailer for Aquaman 2 has finally arrived with the full trailer coming on Thursday.

Warner Bros. Discovery and DC have released the first teaser trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Ahead of the film's release in December, fans had been questioning when a trailer for the Aquaman sequel would finally arrive. The movie has already set the record for having the shortest wait between the trailer's release and the film's premiere in theaters for any DCEU movie, and there were rumors emerging that the studio would be abandoning the marketing for the film entirely. A new teaser released on Sunday night confirms that isn't the case, however, revealing about 30 seconds of footage from the upcoming sequel. It's also noted in the teaser that the full trailer will be released on Thursday.

While the teaser is brief, it does provide a sneak peek at what's to come in the long-awaited sequel. That includes the showdown between Jason Momoa's Aquaman and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's Black Manta, with the latter declaring in the teaser, "I'm going to kill Aquaman and destroy everything he holds dear." The teaser also reveals a variety of snippets of the movie's action, which clearly includes plenty of destruction. Elsewhere in the teaser, there are other small teases, such as a good look at a returning Dolph Lundgren, reprising his role as King Nereus.

In Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, per DC's synopsis, "Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction."

Jason Momoa Is Back in the Final DCEU Movie

There's a possibility Momoa will return as an Aquaman variant in James Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU, or even a potential Aquaman 3, but as of now, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom serves as the final installment of the DCEU. Along with Momoa, Abdul-Mateen, and Lundgren, the movie also stars Patrick Wilson, Randall Park, and Amber Heard. James Wan directed the sequel and produced alongside Safran and Rob Cowan. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick penned the script, based on a story crafted with Wan, Momoa, and Thomas Pa'a Sibbett.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to be released in movie theaters on Dec. 20, 2023.
