Nintendo shares a special video message from Super Mario Bros. veteran voice actor Charles Martinet and series director Shigeru Miyamoto.

Voice actor Charles Martinet and director Shigeru Miyamoto shared a special video message for Mario fans.

Nintendo uploaded a video to its official X, formerly Twitter, account, discussing Martinet's future as an official Mario ambassador after retiring as the voice of the titular plumber of the Super Mario Bros. series. "Travelling around the world, sharing the joy of the Mario family, and being able to continue meeting with all of you wonderful fans who I cherish absolutely the most is a great, great honor," Martinet said. "I'm very much looking forward to seeing all of you at events around the world in the years to come."

Shigeru further reflected on Martinet's career as the voice of several iconic Mario characters, with the series director applauding the voice actor for his devotion to the beloved franchise. "You have traveled the world visiting events, joyfully performing the voice of Mario for fans and putting smiles on people's faces," he said. "You always place a priority on spreading joy, and I am sure that you will be a great Mario ambassador."

Though Martinet is stepping down from voicing Mario in future entries, Miyamoto assured fans that the voice actor will still remain part of the Mario family. Martinet will notably continue to travel the world and attend events, where he will perform, sign autographs and interact with fans as Nintendo's Mario ambassador. Martinet also expressed his appreciation for the franchise, with the voice actor stating that he was honored to portray so many beloved characters throughout his long career. He further conveyed his excitement for his new position as a Mario ambassador and hoped he could continue to meet and entertain followers from around the world.

At the time of writing, it remains unclear who will take over as the voice of Mario and Luigi in future entries for the massively popular video game series. However, Nintendo previously revealed Martinet was not involved in the development of the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Wonder, though they did not specifically state who will replace the veteran voice actor. The title will be a traditional side-scrolling platformer with eight iconic playable characters, which will include Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach. Super Mario Bros. Wonder will additionally feature a local multiplayer coop mode, wherein four players can traverse the Flower Kingdom together.
