Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Gets Release Date and New Trailer
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's new trailer includes reveals, insights, and a release date for fans.
During the latest Sony State of Play, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth got a new trailer that revealed numerous details about the upcoming title.
The game is the second part of the “Remake” saga, which started in 2020. The initial title focused on the events of Midgar, from Cloud Strife joining Avalanche up to the death of the Shrinra President and the first clash with Sephiroth. Strewn throughout that first part were new elements to the legend, including new missions, expanded character stories, and teases of things changing in one form or another. In Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the crew from Avalanche have left Midgar and are on the hunt for Sephiroth while also trying to save the planet before Shinra and others fully drain its energy.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Expands What Came Before
Story-wise, the new trailer highlighted multiple things of interest. For example, players will get to experience more of Cloud’s past, including his “time with Sephiroth,” as well as seeing more of Zack Fair, who was revealed to be alive at the end of the first game’s events despite dying in the original timeline to save Cloud. The cloaked individuals from the first game also appear and are teased to be SOLDIER members who have more going on than anticipated. There are also the arrivals of new characters longtime Final Fantasy fans will know, including Vincent, Cait Sith, and more.
Gameplay-wise, we see more of the various main characters in action, including one sequence where players can control Cloud and Sephiroth together. We also see Red XIII, Yuffie, Cait Sith, and more in action, signaling how large the player’s party will be before the title ends. Numerous locations and monsters are also highlighted, as well as new summons being available to the party.
Outside the trailer, the team behind Final Fantasy VII Rebirth released a tweet stating that the game would feature “major twists and turns” while also promising a large world map to explore at the pace the player desires. Another promise they made was that between the main story and the side quests, the game would tally to almost 100 hours of playing time. Adding more intrigue is that the creative director, Tetsuya Nomura, confirmed that the game is the second of the trilogy and that key feedback from the original title was taken into consideration. Plus, the “fate” of certain characters and storylines is up in the air, and he wants players to “face the ending” on their own terms.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released on PS5 on February 25.
