The Crow Reboot Teased as 'Anti-Marvel Film' by Producer

A producer for the upcoming reboot for The Crow says the film will "blow people away" and could be the start of a new major franchise.

The upcoming reboot of The Crow is getting a lot of hype ahead of its release, with one producer promising that the film will "blow people away."

Recently, it was revealed that a new movie based on James O'Barr's The Crow graphic novel had been acquired by Lionsgate. Directed by Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman), the film stars Bill Skarsgård (IT) as a murdered man who comes back from the dead with the help of a mysterious crow to avenge the killings of himself and his fiancée (FKA Twigs, Honey Boy). Sam Pressman's Pressman Film is one of the companies producing the feature, and he spoke about how excited he is for filmgoers to see the movie, feeling that it has the potential to spawn an all-new massive franchise.

“The Crow has been a very central and integral part of our company and I’m really proud of the progress and the work that has been done,” Pressman said about the reboot. “I think the movie is just going to blow people away. Our partners want to approach it in a very 360 way, whether it be video games, an animated series or a universe, but it’s got this cosmic legacy that can expand beyond a singular story.”

Teasing how the film will greatly benefit from its "anti-Marvel" approach, the producer added, "We’re finally at a point where we can really explore those other avenues because it’s such a unique property in that it is not a studio film, it’s not a Marvel film – it’s kind of an anti-Marvel film. I have the highest hopes for that and I really love what [producer] Molly Hassell has done in pushing it up the hill and Rupert Sanders is such a visionary.”

The Crow Reboot Is the Franchise's Fifth Film

The film series kicked off in 1994 with the release of the original film, which starred the late Brandon Lee, who was tragically killed on-set. The movie would spawn three less-revered sequels in the years to come with different actors in the titular role. That includes Vincent Perez's The Crow: City of Angels in 1996, Eric Mabius' The Crow: Salvation in 2000, and Edward Furlong's The Crow: Wicked Prayer in 2005. There had been different efforts to make a fifth movie in the years since, with one planned project starring Jason Momoa making serious traction at one point before it was canceled.

The Crow reboot is expected to be released in early 2024.
