These Two Shows Are Perfect for Fans of The Mandalorian

The Mandalorian has thematic elements from some great genres. Here are two shows to watch after finishing the Disney+ series.

The Mandalorian is an exciting and epic Star Wars series on Disney+. Starring Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin, the titular Mandalorian, the innovative and refreshing series borrows elements from some of television's greatest genres. But while Season 3 of The Mandalorian has been fully released, Season 4 may be pretty far away. Thankfully, there are two shows fans can watch to fill the time between seasons.

The Mandalorian is the story of a space-faring bounty hunter from the Mandalorian culture. Audiences who have delved into the lore will surely have noted that Mandalorians are very much like outer-space Vikings. They will also notice that it carries the feeling of a futuristic Spaghetti Western. These borrowed notes are largely responsible for the fresh and unique feel of the series, and they point to two specific shows fans can watch when they are longing for more Mandalorian action.

Mandalorians Are Outer Space Vikings

Audiences who have had even the slightest brush with Star Wars lore will immediately recognize the similarities between Mandalorians and Vikings. Mandalorians have a culture based around warfare and travel, spreading out across the galaxy and testing themselves in battle. This is very much like the Vikings of old. Indeed, both cultures have a cryptic and deeply personal religion. They also both pride themselves on honor and martial skills and seek to prove themselves while making their homes in a hostile world.

For fans of such elements, there is the History Channel's epic saga Vikings. Centered around the charismatic and erratic Ragnar Lothbrok and his family, Vikings is full of the themes and action fans of The Mandalorian love. Honor, exploration, battle -- every episode of Vikings is packed full of the things that make The Mandalorian so exciting and rich in lore. The bonus with Vikings is that it has many seasons and a large cast of characters that share the spotlight. Add in the fact that it's loosely based on myth, legend and real history, and Vikings is sure to be a hit with fans of The Mandalorian.

The Mandalorian Borrows Its Western Elements From Things Like Justified

Viewers of The Mandalorian will surely have noticed that the series feels very much like an episodic Spaghetti Western set in a galaxy far, far away. This is very much on purpose, and Din Djarin is very much a space cowboy. He wanders the galaxy mostly alone with just his blaster to rely on and encounters small towns in distress and bandits to have showdowns with.

And for fans who can't get enough cowboy action, there is FX's Justified. The series is about modern-day lawman and gunslinger Raylan Givens. Federal Marshall Givens has plenty of demons from the past to face down and plenty of bad guys to shoot down in classic Western standoffs. Marshall Givens is also played by Timothy Olyphant, who starred in The Mandalorian as small-town lawman Cobb Vanth. This fun fact gives fans of The Mandalorian a direct inroad to Justified. If viewers like Cobb Vanth, they will love the story of Raylan Givens. A bonus is that Justified has recently returned with Justified: City Primeval.
