Kevin Bacon Talks Ending the Strike on New Six Degrees Podcast

Footloose and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special star Kevin Bacon pleads for studios to end the ongoing strike on his Six Degrees podcast.

Kevin Bacon urges Hollywood studios to cut a deal and end the strikes.

Per Deadline, Bacon made a guest appearance on The Today Show to hype up his new podcast Six Degrees with Kevin Bacon. When the Footloose star was asked about the ongoing writers' and actors' strikes in Hollywood, Bacon made clear that the strikes are not about the highly paid stars but instead those who are overlooked and underpaid. "In terms of rich actors, a very small percentage of our union is doing very, very well. Most of the people are living hand-to-mouth, those are the people that we are striking for," Bacon said.

He continued, "My situation is not the same as the majority of our union. When it comes to writers and actors, we are artists, so all of our members are artists so if you do well you get to make your art. On the other side, they’re deal-makers, so if they do well, they get to make a deal. So let’s make a deal, let’s get it done."

Bacon's new Six Degrees podcast will not be just another talk show with celebrities discussing their lives and careers. The podcast will strongly emphasize the humanitarian efforts of such stars as Mark Ruffalo, Matthew McConaughey, Alyssa Milano and the people who run charitable organizations throughout the world. Announced on International Day of Charity, Bacon's Six Degrees "will encourage listeners to make a difference in the world around them and will help them to lean in, learn and be inspired to act."

Kevin Bacon's Acting Career Is Still Going Strong

Now at age 65, Bacon's acting career has shown no signs of slowing down. Recently, the actor played himself in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on Disney+ where he gets captured by the superhero misfits to cheer up a depressed Star-Lord. Ironically, Bacon hates Christmastime, according to director James Gunn. "I have Kevin showing up on set in what is supposed to be his house, and it’s filled with all these enormous inflatables. It looks like Santa Claus vomited all over the Bacon house, which looks nothing like Kevin Bacon’s house in any way," Gunn said. "It’s so L.A.-looking, which is just not Kevin."

Next up for Bacon is the role of Bob Garbinger in Peter Dinkage's reboot of Troma's The Toxic Avenger, set to premiere at Fantastic Fest 2023. Additionally, Bacon will play a mystery character opposite Eddie Murphy in the long-awaited Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley for Netflix and an undisclosed role in MaXXXine, the third and final installment of Ti West's X trilogy. Both movies do not have official release dates yet.

Six Degrees with Kevin Bacon is now available on iHeartPodcasts with new episodes released every Tuesday.
