REPORT: Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Suffers a Major Delay

A new report claims the upcoming Star Wars series Skeleton Crew starring Jude Law has pushed its premiere date into 2024.

A new report claims Star Wars: Skeleton Crew may have been delayed.

Per Bespin Bulletin, a trusted insider on all things Star Wars, sources have told the site that the Jude Law-led adventure in the galaxy far, far away is not targeting a 2024 premiere. This comes after actor Jaleel White casually mentioned that Lucasfilm was going to drop the show on Disney+ in November 2023. Bespin Bulletin further noted that while they weren't able to track down a specific date, some indicated that Skeleton Crew could be delayed by a few months while others think it could be an entire year. A reason for the postponement was not provided but it's believed the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes have prompted Disney to pump the brakes on releasing some of its live-action content.

Details on Skeleton Crew are still scarce but Lucasfilm has confirmed that the Star Wars show is looking to evoke a more "Spielbergian tone," capturing the kind of adventure movies director Steven Spielberg popularized in the 1980s. "One of the things we really like about what the shows that we've been working on have turned into is that the tone of each episode — and in certain cases each series — really reflects the storyteller of the filmmaker," said executive producer Jon Favreau.

A New Star Wars Hero

Law has also spoken about what fans can expect from his character in Skeleton Crew, noting that he's written to effectively be a combination of two iconic Star Wars heroes. "What I wanted to imbue was the humor and the sardonic nature of Solo. The slight tone of, 'Aw, this is all rubbish. What am I doing here?' I think that’s a very Star Wars thing, the lovely irony that someone in it is a little throwaway about the whole thing," the actor explained.

While Lucasfilm has largely kept the plot of Skeleton Crew under wraps, it has shared some insight into what fans can expect. The story will follow a group of children as they're whisked away into an unknown galaxy alongside Law, who has promised to get them home safely. Many assume the show will have ties to Favreau and Dave Filoni's growing connected saga that currently consists of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka but this remains to be seen.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew does not yet have a release date.
