Spy Kids: Armageddon Poster Introduces the Next Generation of Super Spies

Netflix debuts the first poster for its Spy Kids reboot, teasing the armageddon that awaits the next generation of young spies.

Netflix has released a new poster for its upcoming reboot of the Spy Kids franchise.

"Meet The Next Generation," reads the tagline on the poster for Spy Kids: Armageddon, the fifth installment in the long-running franchise and reboot of the original film series which ran from 2001 to 2011. The poster features the titular young heroes -- Patty (Everly Carganilla) and Tony Tango-Torrez (Connor Esterson) -- dressed in their spy outfits and walking cool and confidently away from the armageddon going on behind them. Their parents, played by Zachary Levi (Shazam!) and Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin), join them, as does a yellow robotic crab.

Spy Kids: Armageddon is a reboot of Robert Rodriguez's popular family franchise, which launched in 2001 with Spy Kids, starring Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara as Carmen and Juni Cortez, respectively, with Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino as their parents. The film was a commercial success and was followed by three sequels: Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams (2002), Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over (2003) and Spy Kids: All the Time in the World (2011).

Armageddon Reboots the Spy Kids Franchise

Spy Kids: Armageddon was first announced in January 2021 as a collaboration between creator Robert Rodriguez, Skydance Media and Spyglass Media Group with Netflix boarding the project in March 2022. "When the children of the world’s greatest secret agents unwittingly help a powerful Game Developer unleash a computer virus that gives him control of all technology, they must become spies themselves to save their parents and the world," reads the official logline for Spy Kids: Armageddon. The new film's storyline is very similar to the first movie, which saw Carmen and Juni tasked with saving their parents after a failed mission, leading many fans to wonder if Armageddon is part of the franchise's original continuity or if it is set in its own universe.

Robert Rodriguez Loves Making Spy Kids Movies

Rodriguez, who co-wrote Armageddon with his son Racer, recently revealed that he continues returning to the Spy Kids franchise because of how much they mean to families around the world. "I've just heard from so many families how much they’ve enjoyed these films over the course of their lives. And now a lot of kids who enjoyed the first films as children are parents themselves and enjoy sharing them with their kids," Rodriguez shared. "And personally, this series was based on my growing up in a family of 10 kids with an FBI special-agent uncle. These films were created by my family and me so, in a way, this is our James Bond series of films. We would just love to make them forever. They're empowering for kids, and a bonding experience for families."
