Taylor Swift Concert Film Pre-Sales Approaching Marvel Levels

Pre-sales began on Thursday for the Taylor Swift: Eras Tour concert film, and within hours, numbers surged past $10 million and counting.

Taylor Swift is already a hugely successful dominating force in music, and now she's bringing some of that power to the big screen with the Taylor Swift: Eras Tour concert film. Within hours of tickets going on sale, pre-sales are reportedly reaching Marvel levels in terms of demand from her dedicated fans.

Per Deadline, ticket pre-sales for AMC's Taylor Swift: Eras Tour concert film is surging past $10 million and counting within hours of going on sale. Not only is that an incredible figure, but it's also suggested that the number will continue to grow well over that amount as more fans flock to get tickets. According to one distribution guru, a comparison for the Eras Tour pre-sales is "some Marvel movie," which only proves just how much Swift has infiltrated several aspects of the industry.

The Marvel comparison might not be too far off. Eternals has been cited as one example as that film saw $13 million in pre-sales days before its official release. The movie would go on to open to $71.2 million and with many believing that the Eras Tour pre-sales will surge well beyond the $13 million example of Eternals, the "Anti-Hero" singer could be headed for a record-breaking opening for a concert film when it's all said and done.

AMC Theatres is set to distribute Taylor Swift: Eras Tour and it will play at AMC, Regal and Cinemark with pristine Dolby Atmos and in Imax. Dates for the concert film are Oct. 13-15, Oct. 26-29, Oct. 31 and Nov. 2-5. For those who didn't want to spend a small fortune to see the 3-hour+ long concert in person, movie tickets for the event are reasonably priced at $19.89 and $13.13.

Taylor Swift Will Bring Fans to Theaters En Masse

AMC is in an interesting position because while they don't have the marketing muscle to throw tons of cash into a campaign like other major studios that have released concert films, they have the biggest promotional push in Swift herself and her legions of fans. Some concert films have performed well with the likes of Sony and Paramount behind them but all signs point to Swift's film eclipsing the openings of Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert ($31 million), Michael Jackson's This Is It ($23.2 million) and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never ($29.5 million).

Swift's power is so strong that it even scared the devil away. Soon after the Eras Tour concert film was announced, Universal and Blumhouse moved The Exorcist: Believer off its Oct. 13 release date and moved it to Oct. 6 in order to avoid competing with the musical behemoth. On the dates that the concert film is showing, Swift will now be competing directly with Lionsgate's Ordinary Angels on Oct. 13, Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon on Oct. 20 and Five Nights at Freddy's. on Oct. 27. The latter is also a Universal and Blumhouse release that is launching day-and-date in theaters and on the Peacock streaming service.
