Travis Scott Wants to Do the Soundtrack for Marvel Studios' Blade Reboot

Rapper Travis Scott expresses interest in scoring the eagerly-awaited Marvel Cinematic Universe do-over of the Blade franchise.


Travis Scott recently put himself forward for the currently vacant composer role on Marvel Studios' upcoming Blade reboot.


Rapper, singer/songwriter, and producer Scott expressed interest in overseeing Blade's score in a post on X. "Woke up thinking I would love to do the soundtrack to Blade," he wrote. Scott is certainly no stranger to film productions, having starred in, and developed music for, 2021's Gully. The musician also signed a movie development deal with independent studio A24 in August 2021. That said, there's no indication that Scott and Marvel Studios have actually discussed the possibility of him contributing to Blade's soundtrack at this stage.


It's also worth noting that even if Scott were to land the Blade gig, it's unlikely he'd be working on the project any time soon. The reboot, which will mark the fully-fledged Marvel Cinematic Universe debut of Mahershala Ali's Blade, has been plagued by delays since it was announced in July 2019. Industry insiders attribute part of the hold-up to Ali himself, as the two-time Oscar-winner has reportedly asked Marvel Studios to revise the screenplay on multiple occasions. Some sources have even gone as far as to describe Ali as frustrated with how pre-production on Blade is progressing, which is why the star has supposedly taken a more hands-on role.


The MCU Blade Reboot Hires a New Writer

Another factor keeping the MCU Blade reboot from moving forward is the steady stream of key creative personnel changes over the past four years. Notably, original director Bassam Tariq exited the production in September 2022, with Yann Demange stepping in to replace Tariq two months later. Blade has also gone through several screenwriters, dropping Stacy Osei-Kuffour in favor of Michael Starrbury in November 2022, before Starrbury was himself replaced by Ali's True Detective collaborator Nic Pizzolatto in April 2023.


Then there are the Hollywood strikes, which have impacted the production schedules of several Marvel Studios projects, including Blade. Blade was the first in-development MCU installment to go on hiatus in response to the Writers Guild of America strike, hitting pause on production in May 2023. Marvel Studios subsequently shifted the movie's release date to Feb. 14, 2025. Other MCU outings that had their respective premieres pushed back include Captain America: Brave New World Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and Avengers: Secret Wars. By contrast, Deadpool 3 will hit cinemas earlier than planned on May 3, 2024, and not Nov. 8, 2024, as previously advertised.
