Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake Reportedly in Development

A former employee of Virtuos claims the video game developer is working on a remake of the critically acclaimed The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. A former employee of video game developer Virtuos claimed a remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is in development. According to Xfire, a now-deleted Reddit user posted news regarding several projects currently reported to be in production at Virtuos, which notably included a remake of Oblivion codenamed project "Altar." The leaker claimed Altar was being developed with a pairing system combining Unreal Engine 5 with Oblivion's original game engine, with new graphics rendered on Unreal Engine 5 and various elements such as physics and gameplay lifted from Oblivion. A Virtuos branch studio located in Paris is heading the project, though Virtuos' subsidiary developer Black Shamrock is also reportedly working on the Oblivion remake's art assets. While the former employee didn't give an exact date, they additionally cl...

2023's Hellfire Gala Shows Marvel Still Only Has One Idea For X-Men Stories

Krakoa was supposed to represent a bold new era, but The Hellfire Club (2023) #1 reminded readers of Marvel's singular idea for the team. X-Men: The Hellfire Gala (2023) #1 shocked readers to their core. Marvel has been teasing Fall Of X for months now and had announced that this book was going to be major, but even that feels like an understatement. The Orchis Initiative's brutal attack against the X-Men broke the back of Krakoa and everything the mutant nation had built since it was established, scattering the X-Men to the winds, killing heavy hitters by the score, and leaving mutants in the worst place they've ever been. Well, since the last time that Marvel put the X-Men in the worst place ever. For almost 20 years now, Marvel's default method of X-Men storytelling has been to wreck mutantkind. Fans had hoped that this was the end of that sort of storytelling, but Marvel decided that wasn't in the cards. Creating drama is one thing, but this goes in a much darke...

How Did Harry Potter Manage to Defeat Lord Voldemort?

Many people wonder how Harry Potter defeated Lord Voldemort, but Harry had a special attribute that not even Albus Dumbledore had. Throughout the Harry Potter series, Harry manages to survive Voldemort's attacks and foil his evil plans time and time again, to the audience's constant surprise. Eventually, Harry defeats Voldemort in Deathly Hallows - Part 2 using only an Expelliarmus spell. People wonder how it is possible that a regular Hogwarts student was able to not only escape but also beat one of the most powerful dark wizards that ever existed, especially since Albus Dumbledore himself wasn't able to accomplish this monumental task. The answer to Harry Potter defeating Lord Voldemort lies in the intricacies of magic. When Voldemort chooses Harry as his equal, Voldemort gives the Boy Who Lived the necessary tools Harry will need to confront the Dark Lord and end his dark threat to the Wizarding World. It could be said that, in reality, Voldemort defeated himself in Harr...

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Explained One Reason Why Sam Kirk Left Starfleet

"Lost in Translation" provides good reasons for Sam Kirk’s inevitable decision to leave Starfleet with a visit from his legendary younger brother. Fans of the original series were surprised when Sam Kirk joined the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds in Season 1. Until then, all anyone had known about the brother of the legendary James T. Kirk was that he was a civilian with a wife and children. With no previous mention of his service in Starfleet, the revelation that Sam had served aboard Enterprise before his brother was astonishing, and left an important question to be answered. Since Strange New Worlds premiered on Paramount+ on May 5, 2020, the series has been answering many of the burning questions about the original crew of the Enterprise. It's also created a few new ones. Not least among them is the question of what happened to Lt. Sam Kirk between his tour and the moment James T. Kirk became captain of the Enterprise. Strange New Worlds...

Star Wars: Darth Vader Had a Good Reason Not To Wipe Out the Tusken Raiders

Anakin Skywalker notably hated sand and Sand People, but as Darth Vader, he never sought further revenge on the Tusken Raiders for his mother's death. The most well-known villain in the Star Wars franchise is still Darth Vader, whose presence continues to be felt in several ways throughout the saga. Though he mainly showed up in the "Original Trilogy" movies, his origins were showcased in the prequel films. The second of these highlighted a seeming vendetta between him and an iconic alien species, though this oddly never went very far. The young Anakin Skywalker slaughtered a tribe of Tusken Raiders who had captured and tortured his mother Shmi. His hatred of them was palpable, though he oddly never took this to the next logical extreme. As Darth Vader, he had more than enough power to finalize his revenge and wipe the species as a whole out. He never did this, of course, and the reason for his lack of doing so may come from the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series. Why Darth Va...

Batman's No Kill Rule Is Older — And Stranger — Than You Think

Batman doesn't kill, but in the early Golden Age, he carried a gun. However, a visionary editor helped change the Dark Knight's murderous tendencies. Batman's war on crime in Gotham has sent him to some pretty hardcore places. The Dark Knight has no problem being as violent as possible, but there are certain rules that he follows. The biggest one is that Batman doesn't kill. Now, this rule is mostly just in the comics, and even then it depends on the universe or the time in the Caped Crusader's life. However, the mainline Batman does everything he can to avoid killing and has been known to go after heroes who violate his rules. This is vastly different from Batman back in the old days. The original Golden Age Batman actually did kill in his early stories, and fans have been sharing the rather memorable images this period generated on the internet for years. This actually didn't last very long in the character's history, however, and the reasons behind why he...

The First Slam Dunk Shoots and Scores

Takehiko Inoue helms The First Slam Dunk, the latest anime movie adaptation of his manga series. Here's CBR's review of the intense sports anime. One of the most enduring sports manga series of all time is Takehiko Inoue's Slam Dunk, which received an anime adaptation in the '90s. Over 25 years after the anime and manga series' conclusion, Inoue adapts his own story as the writer and director of the new anime feature film The First Slam Dunk, set to continue the story that was not incorporated into the ‘90s anime series. Distributed for its North American release by GKIDS, The First Slam Dunk features a dazzling animation style and engaging action while being perfectly accessible to viewers unfamiliar with the original Slam Dunk as a relatively standalone story. The First Slam Dunk sets Slam Dunk supporting character Ryota Miyagi as the protagonist for the film, with Ryota recalling the origins of his love of basketball as well as his troubled upbringing in Japan. R...

Rosario Dawson Explains Why Ahsoka Was a 'Weird' Project to Be a Part Of

Ahsoka star Rosario Dawson recalls being kept in the dark about the Star Wars series to avoid spoilers, referring to the experience as "weird." In the upcoming Disney+ series Ahsoka, Rosario Dawson reprises her role of Ahsoka Tano, and her experience on the set of the Star Wars project this time around was apparently a little "weird." In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Dawson talked about shooting the highly anticipated series, as well as working with executive producer and director Dave Filoni. Multiple episodes of Ahsoka were shot concurrently, with two different crews working on them. This complex production resulted in a six-month shoot, avoiding a potentially longer timeline. Filoni's pre-visuals, adapted from his animation background, played a crucial role in guiding the production. Despite starring in Ahsoka, Dawson admitted that she was not privy to the full details due to the secrecy surrounding it. "So I haven’t seen anything of Ahsoka e...

Good Omens Stars David Tennant and Michael Sheen Discuss a Potential Third Season

Good Omens' demon/angel duo, David Tennant and Michael Sheen, are hopeful that Prime will greenlight a Season 3 for the heavenly supernatural dramedy. David Tennant and Michael Sheen, the duo in the lead roles of Good Omens, shared their thoughts on a potential third season. In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Tennant and Sheen addressed the possibility of a third season, "Well, it's not in our gift," Tennant candidly revealed when asked about the possibility of a third season. "Yeah. If it was up to us, that would be one thing, but..." Sheen added. They both hope for another season, but the decision ultimately rests with the viewers and the production team. After a four year wait, the second season of Good Omens has finally arrived on Prime, with Tennant and Sheen reprising their roles as Crowley and Aziraphale. The first season, based on the book by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, has set the stage for a potential Season 3, as Gaiman himself is heav...

Secret Invasion Could've Taken More Cues From Captain America: The Winter Soldier

While their powers may be perfect for espionage, Secret Invasion's Skrulls could've learned a few things from The Winter Soldier's Hydra infiltration. Nick Fury fought Hydra spies long before the Skrull Resistance established themselves, and the Skrulls could've adopted Hydra's more secretive tactics. Before the Secret Invasion series, Captain America: The Winter Soldier was the first Marvel Cinematic Universe attempt at a spy thriller narrative with a superhero twist and featured Hydra as the main villain. The threat of clandestine infiltrators is not new to Nick Fury when Secret Invasion continues his story. Secret Invasion follows spymaster Nick Fury as he discovers a secret conspiracy conducted by terrorist Skrulls. These shapeshifting aliens use their deceptive powers to attempt to start World War 3. However, their schemes could've been more effective if they had taken cues from Hydra's strategy book. The Skrulls Could've Better Manipulated Fury...

Hell’s Paradise: Sagiri’s True Feelings for Gabimaru, Explained

Sagiri and Gabimaru clearly have a complicated relationship in Hell's Paradise, and the manga eventually unveils the truth of their feelings. After watching the first season of Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku , many fans may have questions about the nature of Gabimaru and Sagiri's relationship. That seems largely by design: the reality of their relationship is often presented as ambiguous or up-in-the-air throughout most of the series, especially considering Gabimaru is forced to question whether his wife actually even exists. Admitting to one's feelings and embracing weakness are central themes in Hell's Paradise, and it is obvious after the first season that Gabimaru is in some way the source of Sagiri's own weakness. Similarly, Sagiri gives Gabimaru strength by both healing him and believing in him when he's at his lowest points. Whether that all equates to true love has yet to be shown in the anime adaptation, but by the end of the series the truth of the ma...

How Old Were the Golden Girls Supposed to Be?

The Golden Girls' ages were never revealed on screen during the show. However, with some detective work, fans of the NBC sitcom can figure them out. The classic NBC comedy The Golden Girls broke boundaries with its cast of four older women -- representation that was previously lacking on television. The main characters' ages were usually not explicitly stated. However, some deductive work provides a pretty safe estimate of how old the Golden Girl were supposed to be when the show started. The basic facts to work with are that The Golden Girls began in 1985 and ended in 1992 -- both in real life and in-universe. For simplicity's sake, each season is considered a separate year, because the show ran for seven seasons. That means coming up with each Golden Girl's age in Season 1 all the way to Season 7 is easy for a superfan. How Old Was Rose Nylund on Golden Girls? Portrayed by TV and movie sweetheart Betty White, Rose's age is the easiest to track down -- thanks to Do...

Barbie: How Ryan Gosling's SNL Skits Landed Him the Ken Role

Barbie director Greta Gerwig unpacks how Ryan Gosling's appearances on SNL influenced her decision to cast him as the fantasy-comedy's Ken. Ryan Gosling's Saturday Night Live skits helped land him the Ken role in Barbie, according to the fantasy-comedy's co-writer and director Greta Gerwig. Gerwig discussed the influence of Gosling's SNL appearances on Barbie's casting process in a recent episode of the SmartLess podcast. "You know those actors you can… just sort of feel that they know what's funny, and I always felt that about [Gosling]," she said. "And then I'm a big fan of all of his SNL [skits], I always thought he was great on SNL… He did 'Guy That Just Got a Boat' on 'Weekend Update,' and it's so good." Gerwig added that she was so convinced that Gosling was the perfect choice to play Ken that she included his name in Barbie's screenplay before she actually met the two-time Academy Award nominee. Gerwig q...

How The Dark Trio Is Different From The Big Three And What Makes Them Better

Shonen Jump's Big Three walked so that the Dark Trio could run, and they look to continue running the modern anime scene for the foreseeable future. Anime, like any artistic medium, is no stranger to being separated into easy-to-identify groups. The very concept of "shonen" as pertaining to a young male audience is useful for publications like Shonen Jump, but such groups are rarely ever easy to define, and can often be even harder to distinguish. There is a fine line between shonen and seinen which becomes even blurrier the closer it's examined, and which is only truly recognizable at its absolute extremes. The Dark Trio (consisting of Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Hell's Paradise) is a great example of the blurriness between shonen and seinen, as each of those series tread that fine line as though it were a tight rope which they sway back and forth on—often violently. The "shonen" example that the Dark Trio directly contends with is really one that...

Is Red's Pokémon Team Actually Any Good?

An iconic Trainer and Pokémon Champion, Red is a challenging opponent for any player, but his team might not be as formidable in competitive play. Among Pokémon fans, most know Red as the main protagonist of the Gen I Pokémon games and may wrongly assume he's the games' copy of Ash Ketchum. However, Red's legacy reaches beyond the original games, to the point where he is considered one of the strongest Pokémon Trainers of all time. Red is the Champion from Pallet Town, and actually returns in various Pokémon games as a tough Trainer to battle against. The spine of his teams tend to stay the same, but with appropriate changes here and there. Yet as formidable a Champion and Trainer he is, it's interesting to consider and analyze how good his teams actually are — especially when taken onto the competitive circuit or used by casual players. Red's First Team Has Type Coverage But No Real Wow Factor Where This Team Can Be Found The first time that players face off agains...
