A Batman Cartoon Gave the Late Paul Reubens His Most Fitting DCU Role

Paul Reubens will forever be remembered as Pee-wee Herman, but one of his most memorable connections to the DC universe is also worth mentioning. Tragic news struck on July 30, 2023, when comedy legend Paul Reubens passed away after a secret battle with cancer. While he was best known as the lovable man child Pee-wee Herman, his career was also filled with many other roles in film and television that allowed him to showcase his range outside of the character. In fact, many may be shocked to learn that he also had a long history of playing roles from the DC Universe. Some may remember his cameo as the Penguin's father in Batman Returns and how he reprised the role for a three-episode arc on Gotham. However, it was through his venture into voice-acting where he really landed the perfect role for his comedic sensibilities. In fact, it just so happened to be another Batman-related role, in one of the character's most arguably underrated incarnations, Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

DC's British Invasion Changed The Comic Industry For The Better

The '80s era of DC brought in British talent that would narrate the future of comics. DC Comics has produced many of the greatest works of sequential art of the last 40 years. Since the mid-1980s, DC has had a stranglehold on "prestige" comics, those books that are considered works of art by anyone who has experienced them. A very large factor in this was the British Invasion of the 1980s, when Jenette Kahn, the head of DC Comics at the time, and editor Karen Berger went to the United Kingdom to trawl for talent after the successes of Alan Moore, Brian Bolland, Dave Gibbons, and other British creators. The British Invasion brought over an infusion of talent that made DC Comics in the late '80s to the mid-'90s the best comic publisher going. The talented creators who came to DC changed the game forever. Not only were they sales successes, but their comics presaged much of what is happening today in the comic industry. A Mounting Wave The 1980s were an exciting time

The poster features the titular young heroes -- Patty (Everly Carganilla) and Tony Tango-Torrez (Connor Esterson) -- dressed in their spy outfits and walking cool and confidently away from the armageddon going on behind them. Their parents, played by Zachary Levi (Shazam!) and Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin), join them, as does a yellow robotic crab. Spy Kids: Armageddon is a reboot of Robert Rodriguez's popular family franchise, which launched in 2001 with Spy Kids, starring Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara as Carmen and Juni Cortez, respectively, with Antonio Ban

Elizabeth Olsen Wants to Move On From Scarlet Witch

Marvel Cinematic Universe star Elizabeth Olsen insists she wants to be known for playing characters other than Scarlet Witch. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star Elizabeth Olsen doesn't want to be known as just Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, claiming there's "no longevity" in playing one role consistently. Speaking with The Times of London before the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike, Olsen addressed her future in the MCU. The actor hinted she's ready for new roles after being mainly associated with Marvel projects for the last few years, simply wanting to freshen up her résumé. "I’m trying to figure out…Because, specifically in the last four years, my output has been Marvel,” Olsen said. “I don’t want…it’s not that I don’t want to be associated as just this character. But I really feel like I need to be building other parts back up for balance." Olsen became a bon

Marvel Fans React to Daniel Radcliffe's Shredded Physique: 'Make Him Wolverine Already'

Many Marvel fans have been renewing the call for Daniel Radcliffe to play Wolverine in the MCU's X-Men reboot. Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has become more solidified as a fan favorite choice to play Wolverine in a new X-Men movie. Recently, Radcliffe showed off his impressive physical transformation for his role in the TV series Miracle Workers. Images and footage of a scene featuring the actor stripping down to his underwear, all the while acting maniacally, went viral shortly after the episode's airing. Countless Marvel fans have been stressing how the scene proves better than ever that Radcliffe would be perfect to play the next Logan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even the popular digital artist BossLogic got involved by adding some adamantium claws to an image of Radcliffe. While Radcliffe may be looking the part more so than ever with his latest role, it's nothing new for him to be suggested by fans as Wolverine. Last year, the WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story s

Zendaya Plots Villain Role for Future Project

Spider-Man and Dune star Zendaya teases fans, talking up the possibility of shifting towards a "villain of sorts" role for a future project. Zendaya has done vulnerable and heroine, now hoping to add "villain" to her list of characters. Alongside teasing an interest in directing, Zendaya revealed to Elle Magazine that she wants to play the villain one day. "I would love to play a villain of sorts. Tap into that evil, supervillain vibes," she says. "Whatever that manifests in, I don’t think necessarily in a superhero sense but in an emotional sense. I feel like I usually play the good guy, so I’d like to play the bad guy.” A superpowered Zendaya was once on the cards, chartering a vastly different possible path for the actor. "I leave the superhero-ing to this one," she said about Spider-Man co-star Tom Holland. "I'm actually really happy with MJ, and the character that she is and that she plays. They're there for each other, and

Netflix's One Piece Omits One of the Series' Most Underrated Groups

It's hard to bring everything over when adapting an expansive story like One Piece, but the Netflix show left out one of its most underrated groups. Adapting a story into live-action comes with all sorts of challenges. Of course, the creative team has to make it appealing to fans of the property while still inviting others to join for the ride. Netflix's One Piece balances this splendidly, taking the things fans love about the series and putting a new spin on them to provide a fresh take. However, in doing so, it omits one of the series' most underrated groups. When the crew arrives in Syrup Village looking for a ship, they meet the mighty Captain Usopp, who seems to be one of the community's most important members. Quickly, though, Usopp's ruse begins to unravel, and the Straw Hat Pirates learn he's known as the town fool. But what helped make Usopp so likable in the source material were the Usopp Pirates, who are nowhere to be found in the Netflix show. How Ne

In an interview with Esquire, the Irish heartthrob talked about his recent experiences, such as becoming well-known for his performance on Normal People. Mescal opened up about adjusting to stardom, his Oscar nomination, and meeting his Gladiator 2 co-star, Pascal. Just before Pascal’s involvement in Gladiator 2 was announced, Mescal ran into him at Los Angeles International Airport. “I was too afraid to go up to him,” Mescal revealed. “He came up and just seemed so genuine; I’m really looking forward to hanging out with him.” Pascal first gained notoriety for his memorable, if short-lived, role as Oberyn Martell in Game of Thr

A Haunting in Venice Cast & Character Guide

A Haunting in Venice takes inspiration from an Agatha Christie novel. While some characters are the same as in the novel, others have changed. A Haunting in Venice is the upcoming sequel to Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile. The supernatural and mystery film marks the return of Kenneth Branagh as the iconic Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. In A Haunting in Venice, Poirot is now retired and must investigate a murder that happened at a séance he attended. A Haunting in Venice is based on Agatha Christie's Hallowe'en Party. The film will introduce another recurring character in Agatha Christie's novels, writer Ariadne Oliver. It features an ensemble cast that includes Michelle Yeoh and Tina Fey, who will bring to life characters from the novel. And, much like in Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile, A Haunting in Venice introduces some original characters created for the film as well. Kenneth Branagh as Hercule Poirot Kenneth Branagh returns for

Every Possible Korok Puzzle in Tears of the Kingdom, Explained

With over 1,000 Korok Seeds in Tears of the Kingdom, players will encounter a wide assortment of puzzle types when searching for these collectibles. Korok Seeds are incredibly useful resources in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. These plentiful collectibles let players increase Link's weapon inventory, allowing him to carry more bows, shields, and melee weapons. In the new Zelda title, there are 100 more Korok Seeds than in the game's predecessor, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. With a dizzying total of 1,000 Korok Seeds in Tears of the Kingdom, players can expect to stumble across a variety of Korok puzzle types. These puzzles can be found in the Sky Islands and across Hyrule, but no Korok Seeds are found in The Depths or in shrines. Additionally, while there are 1,000 Korok seeds, there are only 800 Korok puzzle locations since one puzzle type grants players two Korok Seeds upon completion. Fully maxing out Link's inventory will take 421 Korok Seeds, so

The Flash’s Max Debut Was Almost a Record Low for a DC Title

The numbers are in for The Flash's Max streaming debut and they are not good, with the blockbuster almost setting a record low for a DC title. The Flash reportedly made a less-than-stellar entrance when it debuted on Warner Bros. Discovery's Max streaming service last weekend. According to Samba TV, the Ezra Miller-starring DC superhero movie was watched by 1.1 million U.S. households over its first three days (Aug. 25 to Aug. 27, 2023) on Max. This is slightly lower than the 1.2 million U.S. households that tuned in to watch Black Adam over its first three days on Max, but way above the 260 thousand U.S. households that took a chance on Shazam! Fury of the Gods. An infographic created by The Flash Film News reveals that The Flash's 1.1 million is the second-lowest Max debut for a DC title. Wonder Woman 1984 (2.2M) and The Suicide Squad (2.1M) remain the only DC movies to debut on Max with more than 2 million U.S. households tuning in. However, it is worth noting that both

The Silent Hill 2 Remake Can't Afford to Be Anything Short of Perfect

Bloober Team's remake of Silent Hill 2 has the potential to make or break Konami's franchise as it attempts to recapture its former glory. The legacy of Silent Hill 2 is undeniable under any circumstances. 22 years after its initial release, the second installment in Konami's psychological horror franchise still appears near the top of every "best of horror" gaming list. Developer Team Silent's inarguable classic has influenced titles in every pop culture medium. Silent Hill 2 was also a commercial success, selling over one million copies during its release month. It later made PlayStation's "Greatest Hits" and Xbox's "Platinum Hits" catalogs. Last year in October, Konami announced that Polish developer Bloober Team would be developing a Silent Hill 2 remake. The remake is part of Konami's planned revival of the Silent Hill franchise, which comes after nine years of radio silence (pun intended) following its falling out with Hid

Taylor Swift is already a hugely successful dominating force in music, and now she's bringing some of that power to the big screen with the Taylor Swift: Eras Tour concert film. Within hours of tickets going on sale, pre-sales are reportedly reaching Marvel levels in terms of demand from her dedicated fans. Per Deadline, ticket pre-sales for AMC's Taylor Swift: Eras Tour concert film is surging past $10 million and counting within hours of going on sale. Not only is that an incredible figure, but it's also suggested that the number will continue to grow well over that amount as more fans flock to get tickets. According to one distribution guru, a comparison for the Eras Tour pre-sales is "some Marvel movie," which only proves just how much Swift has infiltrated several aspects of the industry. The Marvel comparison might not be

Men in Black's Original Ending Nearly Went Full Avengers: Endgame

Men in Black is known for how it subtly handles the threat of an all-out alien invasion. But the first movie nearly went full Avengers: Endgame. 1997's Men in Black was a unique entry in the alien invasion genre. Based on the Malibu Comics series, The Men in Black (by Lowell Cunningham and Sandy Carruthers), the movies embraced the quirky bureaucratic side and leaned into its humor while exploring the fun and intensity of arresting literal extraterrestrials in New York City. Of course, the best aspect of it came from the dichotomy of Agent K and Agent J, played by Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith, respectively. But the story of how the epic finale of Men in Black was crafted had its own unique shifts thanks to its disgusting and unsettling main villain. Men in Black followed Jay as a new recruit to the MIB and partner to the seasoned and serious Agent K. They had to hunt down a rogue bug that was stranded on Earth and looking for a way home to return with a full invasion force. While

Lex Luthor Is Superman's Greatest Foe – But Is He Actually Evil?

Lex Luthor has made a name for himself as the greatest foe of Superman, but it's worth exploring whether he rises to the definition of true evil. Writing compelling villains is one of the most important parts of crafting superhero stories. As the world's first superhero, Superman has one of the best rogues galleries in comics, and it is headed up by none other than Lex Luthor. Since his Golden Age introduction, Luthor has become synonymous with the very idea of comic book villainy and the arch-nemesis. But is he actually evil beneath the surface? Lex Luthor has undergone much change over the eight decades of his existence. Beginning as an eccentric "mad scientist" foe, the villain has been written as a brilliant yet conniving businessman, a genius rival to Superman, and even an antihero. Each of these new directions has added depth to both Luthor's motivations and his psychology. While some stories do hold true to his unabashedly pro-Doom philosophy, others instea

Dragon Ball's Akio Iyoku Leaves Shueisha to Start Capsule Corporation Tokyo

The Dragon Ball franchise is experiencing a significant change as its editor, Akio Iyoku, has decided to part ways. The Dragon Ball franchise is currently experiencing a significant transformation with the departure of Akio Iyoku, a key figure in the series' development. Iyoku, who has been a longtime editor and right-hand man to the legendary manga creator Akira Toriyama was the head of the Dragon Room section at Japan's largest publishing company, Shueisha. And, he has left his role, aiming to take the Dragon Ball Universe in a new direction. Embarking on an independent journey, Iyoku has established the company, Capsule Corporation Tokyo, which is already generating buzz in the anime and gaming industry. This move has left the fan community concerned, as Iyoku has been a vital part of Toriyama's team for a considerable period, contributing to various aspects of the franchise, from communication with the franchise's animation studio, Toei, to writing scripts for recen

Ahsoka Brings a Classic Animated Tactic to Live Action

Ahsoka has made huge strides in representing animation in live action and bringing back this classic tactic continues that trend for Star Wars. Ahsoka has continued to dazzle fans and bring back memories and feelings of the Prequel era and the famous animated series. Star Wars: Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels brought a freshness to the decades old franchise and told some essential stories. Ahsoka has taken many hints from the animated projects already and Season 1, Episode 3 "Time to Fly," continued the trend. Not only did it channel the flying of Prequel era space battles, but Ahsoka followed in the footsteps of her Master, Anakin Skywalker, and took the fight to the starfighters in an unusual manner. One of the big requests that fans are always looking for in Star Wars, is more space walks and fights. It seems that Star Wars has often wanted to avoid the concept of having characters actually physically fight in space. This "rule" has been broken occasionally in a

LeVar Burton Closing Deal to Host Trivial Pursuit Game Show on The CW

The CW is reportedly finalizing a deal for LeVar Burton's game show based on Trivial Pursuit. It's looking like the Trivial Pursuit game show hosted by LeVar Burton might have finally found its home. The CW has reportedly been finalizing a deal to pick up the game show, per Deadline. It's an update that comes nearly two years after it was first reported that Burton had teamed up with eOne to host a new game show based on Trivial Pursuit. The Star Trek: The Next Generation star is serving as an executive producer on the series in addition to his plans to host. It comes after Burton served as a guest host for Jeopardy! following the passing of Alex Trebek, a job that he'd campaigned for only to find that it wasn't the right fit for him in the end. "Trivial Pursuit is one of the best-known brands in the gaming universe. I am thrilled to have partnered with Hasbro and eOne to bring this beloved game to market as a premium show for television," Burton said in a

Marvel Unleashed Assembles a New Generation of Pet Avengers

Marvel's next epic mystery has just brought together a whole new team of superheroic animals, but can they really replace the Pet Avengers? The concept of high-flying heroes having their own animal companions is nothing new in the realm of pop culture, and certainly not in the Marvel Universe. Over the years, heroes ranging all the way from Doctor Strange to Bucky Barnes have opened their arms to pets just as incredible as their owners. However, these four-legged friends rarely get to spend any time in the spotlight for themselves. Thankfully, Marvel Unleashed #1 (by Kyle Starks, Jesús Hervás, Yen Nitro, and VC's Joe Caramagna) has just opened the door for some of the most iconic Pet Avengers to take the center stage. Better yet, it has also introduced at least one all new canine crime-fighter who could easily become the next fan-favorite among Marvel audiences. That is, assuming she and the rest of her newfound allies survive long enough to leave a lasting impact in the first
